Anticipation is growing ahead of the upcoming Citi Handlowy IRONMAN 70.3 Warsaw. Polish fans are particularly eager to see another strong performance from Robert Wilkowiecki, who recently confirmed his place among the world's top triathletes with his participation in the IRONMAN Texas race.
Among the most formidable rivals for the current European IRONMAN vice-champion are Kacper Stępniak from Pho3nix GVT Team, who finished just behind the popular "Wilki" in last year's Enea IRONMAN 70.3 Poznań, and Mikkel Taagholt from Denmark. Taagholt also has fond memories of Poland, as he secured the 3rd place in the 2019 Enea IRONMAN 70.3 Gdynia.
The PRO athlete list also includes Tomasz Brembor, Piotr Ławicki, and the well-known Ukrainian triathlete Anton Blokhin, who has repeatedly reached the podium in Polish triathlon events in Susz and Gdynia.
The women's competition promises to be fascinating as well. One of the favorites is Lucy Buckingham, who won the Enea IRONMAN 70.3 Gdynia in 2021 under her maiden name, Hall.
Agnieszka Jerzyk should also be considered a strong contender for top positions. The accomplished Polish representative triumphed in the Warsaw event in 2017, albeit in the Olympic distance. However, her expectations for this year's IRONMAN 70.3 are more toned down
Among the PRO female athletes, we will also see the experienced Michelle Vesterby. The Danish representative is a highly accomplished athlete, with her most significant successes achieved between 2012 and 2016, including three top-ten finishes at the IRONMAN World Championships and coming close to the podium in 2015.
The Citi Handlowy IRONMAN 70.3 Warsaw, along with accompanying events, will take place from June 9th to June 11th, 2023. The sporting excitement will begin on Friday evening with the Night Run Warsaw, a short 5-kilometer race starting at 11:00 PM. On Saturday, there will be kids' runs in the Multimedia Fountain Park, while the main triathlon competition on the IRONMAN 70.3 and Olympic distances will take place on Sunday, June 11th. The organizers anticipate record attendance in the event's history, with athletes from over 60 different countries participating.
